Song and Jess were in each other’s proximity but not in each other’s orbit. We worked in the same neighborhood and went to the same bars, but never truly crossed paths. Maybe they walked past each other, but yet to meet. So what’s our story? In 2015, Song and Jess met at a job fair - he approached her booth. His resume was impressive. Our product manager said “This guy is too smart for us. He’s gonna get bored and leave us!”. They both went about their ways, thinking nothing more. Then in 2017, Song was starting a new journey. Coincidentally, so was Jess. On March 6, they both swiped right on a dating app. “I don’t think you remember me, but I remember you”, he said. After light banter on spiders, their first date happened on March 12 at a museum. She was so nervous and took so long to get ready she ran late. He seemed like someone who liked people who were punctual - was it already over for her? Jessica rushed into the New Museum and scanned the room. There he was, in a Barbour-esque jacket, a plaid shirt, slacks and tie dye Vans. “Well this is different”, she thought. From that moment, when the sun hit his face and he approached to say “Hello”, she was knew deep down he was her future. It later turned out they had mutual friends, even one who thought he’d be perfect for her - the timing was just off. And that’s that. Jessica has been continuously in awe of his patience and how welcome he makes everyone feel. He had such patience and love to someone he did not know well who struggled to find her peace. She found comfort in his gentleness, his unwavering acceptance, and boy did he know how to cook. It took awhile for him to see that love returned, but when it arrived, did it flood. Song gives Jess structure, he’s always prepared, is surrounded by the most wonderful friends, and makes her laugh. Jess gives Song playfulness, an encouragement to heal his wounds and know he is safe and always loved. Timing was everything for us, and continues to be. And we can’t wait for the chapters that await us.
