Amol and I met randomly in August of 2015 at a bar in Chinatown. I was with my roommate looking for a seat, when a couple of spots opened on the patio next to Amol and his friends. His friends began chatting with my friend, and I made my way next to Amol. We spent the rest of the evening talking about our love of Disney movies and Taco Bell. At the end of the night, tired of waiting for him to ask for my number, I asked for his. The next few weeks we texted back and forth until I finally got him to take me on a date. Fast forward to almost 5 years later and we've traveled the world, filled our bellies on many food adventures, and even adopted 2 dogs and 2 parakeets. Besides traveling and eating great food, we love spending our time playing with our furry friends Orbit and Fiona, hiking, going to vineyards and breweries, and making everyday an adventure. Amol completes a puzzle I never knew needed completing. All these years of growth and joy - not only did we find each other, but we found ourselves!
Nicole was "patiently" waiting for the moment for months - years, if you ask her. It finally came on October 21st, 2019. We decided to take a vacation to Singapore with some of our closest friends. Nicole was hopeful that the moment would come during this trip. On our way to the airport, I decided to tell her I was planning on proposing but the ring didn't make it on time. Let's just say she was grumpy the whole plane ride there. We had made plans to dress in our finest clothes and go to Atlas, ranked one of the best cocktail bars in the world. Leading up to our reservation, Nicole had been very distant and quiet to say the least. We got to the bar, and our friends passed me the ring as secretly as possible. I asked Nicole to join me on the indoor balcony that overlooks the entire bar. We got up there and finally the moment had arrived! I got down on one knee and popped the question. I still have no idea what I said to her but the next thing I knew, Nicole was crying and the crowded bar was cheering and screaming. It was a moment that neither of us will ever forget. We spent the rest of the night drinking champagne and celebrating.
Last year we made the decision to postpone our reception but move forward with a small in-person celebration with virtual attendance via Zoom. We snuck off for a quiet mini-moon at St. Michael's Bay, MD. We rode 30 miles and went sailing on the bay amongst dolphins. We came back to the quietude of quarantine and have hibernated together awaiting for the day we could celebrate our happiness with our loved ones. A year later, we can proudly say we have survived our first year of marriage and we did so during a pandemic! Come party with the Patels - it will be a night you won't forget!
