Our Story

05.16.18

Abby and I met at a karaoke bar in Florence, Italy. No, that's not the plot of the newest Disney+ movie - that's really how we met! We were on two separate study abroad trips (Abby with UGA and I with USC) that just happened to be touring the San Lorenzo Market at the same time. We noticed each other's groups wearing shirts from our rival schools, naturally started talking, and we invited them to go out with us that night. Later on, Abby and I met as we were the only ones of our friends not on stage singing "Sweet Caroline" - though there's a debate on who talked to the other first (there were a few Peroni's involved but I swear I started the conversation). I walked Abby back to her hotel that night, got her number, and texted her to let her know I made it back to my hotel safely too. Thankfully she didn't ghost me (which she later admitted to considering) and we continued texting throughout the rest of our trips. I visited her in Athens the first weekend after we got back to the US and the rest is history! Fun fact: a few days before we met, Abby did the cheesy Lizzie McGuire Trevi Fountain coin toss in Rome and on the same day we met I dropped a coin in the Fontana del Porcellino in Florence for good luck... if we weren't superstitious before, we are now :) - Michael

The Proposal

04.02.21

Easter Weekend was a three day weekend for us, so we wanted to make the most of it and go on a trip somewhere. Michael asked me where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do but little did I know, he already had the whole weekend planned for us - the city (Charleston), the shopping trips, the restaurant reservations, and everything in between. On Friday after a little shopping, a LOT of walking, and a slight fake-out by the pineapple fountain, Michael took me to White Point Garden where he proposed under the gazebo. He even had our sweet friend Andrea waiting to capture the whole thing! I truly couldn't have felt happier or more loved by my now-fiancé. Now that we were engaged, I assumed that the rest of the weekend would be spent celebrating and enjoying our time in Charleston - no more surprises. Boy was I wrong! On Saturday morning when Michael and I show up to brunch, we were greeted by both of my parents who had driven all the way from Pennsylvania to celebrate with us and take us to look at wedding venues. On Sunday, we capped off our weekend with an Easter service at church and a big celebratory lunch, then headed home with full and happy hearts (and stomachs). I can't wait for so many more surprises together! - Abigail
