How We Met

Concerts and Carnivals

Marissa first saw Dylan at a concert for local Lehigh Valley bands. Being the avid concert goer she was and is, she thought she recognized him as being the bassist from another band she had seen a few weeks prior. Fearlessly, she walked up to him and asked if he was in a band and he responded “kind of...”. This was not the response Marissa was looking for so she apologized for mistaking him for someone else and went on her way. A few minutes later, a friend of Dylan’s walked up to Marissa and asked if she wanted his phone number. Marissa, not being immediately interested, said no thanks but her friends squealed “yes she does!” She texted Dylan the next day and invited him to hang out with her and her friends at the Cementon Fair. After hanging out at the fair and laughing endlessly together, Dylan built up the courage to ask Marissa out at exactly 11:13pm on June 30, 2010. Marissa remembers the exact time because her 11:11pm wish came true.

The Proposal

12/24/19

Every Christmas Eve in Marissa’s family is spent at her cousins’ house (Shout-out Charlie and Gail!). It is her favorite holiday and the best part of the night takes place after dinner when the whole family gathers around to sing Christmas carols. When we get to The Twelve Days of Christmas, per tradition, everyone groups up and is assigned a day of the song. Marissa’s mom, Patricia, is always 5 golden rings (obviously the best day) and Marissa, being the momma’s girl that she is, usually tags along with her. This year, Dylan joined their 5 golden rings group to which Marissa mentioned that he must rate! The song starts and their group is killing it all the way up to the 11th day when Charlie, the fearless song leader, pauses and makes an announcement that we have reached the twelfth day so this is everyone’s time to shine so make it count! Marissa is so focused on making this last round phenomenal that when they get to the fifth day she jumps out of her seat and belts “FIIIIIVE GOLDEN RIIIIINGS!” and quickly realizes her group has abandoned her and she’s the only one singing. She quickly shoots Dylan a disappointed look just before realizing he is down on one knee holding the ring she has always wanted. Of course she said yes and rejoiced with her family cheering and a celebratory Build Me Up, Buttercup dance.
