In early 2020 Greg was planning a work move to San Antonio and Ashton had plans to move to Raleigh. They had almost given up on their hope in finding their person with online dating but it would seem “Cupid” had a different plan for them. Truth be told, Greg had swiped LEFT because Ashton “looked too young.” But he got a second chance when Ashton’s best friend Lauren insisted to have a few cameo swipes and swiped RIGHT on Greg without Ashton even having a chance to read his profile (which would become something to laugh about later). They MATCHED and Greg’s pick up line sealed the deal "It looks like we have a lot of things in common... with enough differences to keep it interesting.”
Just 3 days before the start of quarantine they went on their first date. A casual dinner, but they talked for hours, shutting the restaurant down and confirming their second date before leaving. Their love of movies, music, and sports connected them immediately. Plans to go bowling were almost disrupted when Maryland decided to shut down. Thank goodness for Virginia still being open - all they needed to do is switch locations! Ashton's above average bowling caught Greg’s attention &Greg's witty sense of humor caught Ashton's.
As quarantine expanded, their dates turned to long walks with masks and a lot of hours spent on facetime. He even braved Zoom calls with the girls! After squeezing a year worth of dates into just a few months they decided Ashton would move in for a month trial run. It was getting more and more complicated to see each other in person and they wanted to spend Greg's Birthday together. Not even the full month in and they decided she should stay so... she never left. In the following months they moved everything out of Ashton's Rockville apartment and made the permanent move to Ashburn. Their weekends were filled with early mornings watching sunrises at Skyline Drive, exploring local breweries and wineries, and long drives exploring unknown roads that would lead to new adventures. Greg grilled and Ashton baked. It was a culinary match made in heaven.
On a Thursday evening Greg had suggested that Ashton make plans to have dinner with Lexy at a restaurant nearby. Neither of them suspected Greg had anything up his sleeve, in fact he had told Lexy a whole different plan for a proposal! When Ashton got home she found a pathway of rose petals leading through the house, lit by tea lights. Greg was standing there in a sport coat, jeans, and bare feet with a box and a single long stem red rose. In classic Greg fashion, there had to be a punchline. He asked, "Will you accept this rose? teasing Ashton’s enthusiasm for the Bachelor. Then he got down on one knee and asked "Will you marry me?" Without hesitation she replied “yes.”
