Summer after LMU Mercy was having a hard time finding a job (thanks, economic crisis). An opportunity came by to work a summer with the Mayor’s office of Los Angeles. Mercy applied and landed a job to become a Youth Squad Supervisor in Panorama City. On the first day on location, Mercy had to meet the park staff. She met Ricardo Davis, the park Director who introduced her to the staff. One of them stood out to Mercy: Henry Segovia, who would help her navigate the park and help throughout the summer - which he did, especially by bringing Mercy skittles and an Arizona Iced Tea every now and then because he knew she liked them. Mercy’s heart beat a little faster when she saw Henry for the first time - wearing a yellow shirt and his big, goofy smile. She thought: “why am I nervous around this flaquito?” She tried to brush off the butterflies, but they persisted. Summer continued and they got to know each other a little more, each time having fun and making memories. They “started talking” and would text and call each other so much during that summer (like, A LOT). Once the summer was over, neither of them wanted the connection to end. They dated, got to really know each other and were in the honeymoon phase for longer than usual. They have both grown tremendously, but, most importantly - with each other. Henry has kept Mercy smiling and laughing since. Celebrating their 9 year anniversary in September of 2019 - they will now join each other in marriage and commit to laughing and growing old with each other. - H & M
