We met at Oregon State University back in 2017. We both worked at the CH2M Alumni Center on campus, where we got to know each other throughout many early morning and late night shifts. We spent the first year as friends, until summer of 2018, when we began seeing each other outside of setting up tables and chairs, or cleaning kitchens and supply closets! Jamie: I can confidently say that I had eyes for him from day one. He relieved me from a Beaver Football Tailgater morning shift, where I was on parking lot duty out in the cold, drizzly rain (in my single sweatshirt and tennis shoes, wondering where my California sun had run off to). He was so CUTE and kind, I remember rushing back to my roommate (and bridesmaid) Lauren and saying that he was way out of my league! Well, fast forward and here we are, committing to attend many more Beaver Football Tailgaters together! Henry: Summer 2018 was a time I will always cherish. I remember getting to know this really cute co-worker of mine from Southern California, who lit up any room she walked into with her charming friendliness, personality, and her beautiful smile. On one particular shift, she and I were working together buffing the kitchen floors, and I somehow forgot to mix the cleaning soap with water, only cleaning the floor with soap. Let's just say it made for an even longer clean up day on my behalf. Feeling guilty and embarrassed, I wanted to make it up to Jamie for keeping her after hours, so I mustered up a little courage and asked her out on an ice cream date. An incredibly rare occasion where my mistake led to one of the best outcomes I could've asked for.
We love to take little trips and spend our time outside, hiking and enjoying nature. We had made our way to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park, spending the entire weekend doing what we love! It was our last day and we still hadn’t done the hike to the most famous attraction of Sequoia National Park - Moro Rock! Now, usually there is a shuttle that takes you to the base of the rock and from there you hike up the short half mile to the top. But - we did not plan accordingly, and ended up at the pick up station after hours. . . So no more shuttles. . . Thus leaving us with no other option but to kick it in gear and race up the entire mountainside to "catch the sunset" (wink wink wink). A spur of the moment 5 mile ascending hike after already putting in 10+ miles on the day was not on Jamie's bingo card. Jamie may or may not have already been a little grumps to begin with prior to, since the local general store was fresh out of mint chip ice cream, so might as well add to the uphill battle quite literally right? But Henry kept reiterating, “I’ll make it up to you, don’t worry!” Jamie didn’t see how this would be possible, since all the other ice cream stores would be closed by the time we walked back DOWN and finally headed out of the park. Let’s just say that Henry did in fact make it up to Jamie and walking back down was one of the best hikes of our lives thus far! (And yes Henry was good on that promise of mint chip too)
