Nelson-Atkins Art Museum: The Nelson is a Kansas City staple. It is free admission, with a cute coffee shop and cafe inside. Outside, a beautiful lawn features the iconic shuttlecock statues. There is also an art-themed mini golf course, which requires booking and payment in advance. The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures: This museum is exactly what is sounds. Rooms filled with miniature toys. A local gem. Has a great gift shop too. Science City: A must-see for those with kiddos. An indoor and outdoor museum with captivating exhibits and hands-on activities. Located at Union Station, so you are surrounded by lots to do after visiting the museum. WWI Museum and Liberty Memorial: Check out the museum, or just opt to visit the Liberty Memorial (for free) to see a beautiful view of the city skyline. This is one of the first places Cecelia brought Henry in KC.
Kansas City is well-known for its barbecue. The bride, however, is a vegetarian, so does not have any personal recommendations. The general consensus is that the following are the best places to check out: Joe's Kansas City Barbecue, Hayward's, Arthur Bryant's, or Jack Stack, where Henry & Cecelia went to celebrate their engagement photos and eight months together. If you are not in the mood for BBQ, consider Mi Ranchito, a great local Mexican food chain. This one on 80th in Overland Park is the go-to spot for Cecelia and her fellow nurse friend, Mason, after long shifts. The best frozen margaritas and great food. This is the first restaurant Cecelia took Henry to when he came to Kansas. If you are grabbing coffee or breakfast on the way out of town, check out one of these places: Spitlog Coffee, Java Garage (go meet Stout, the cutest shop dog), Third Space Coffee House, or Dagwood's Cafe.
Power and Light: An Entertainment district filled with restaurants and bars. Check out No Other Pub, PBR Big Sky, and Shark Bar, along with many others. Westport: A lively entertainment district. Check out Tinroof, Lotus, or Char Bar. Crossroads: The art district, characterized by a generally more upscale and mature vibe. Take a look at the Mercury Room, Green Lady Lounge, Percheron Rooftop Bar Bride's Personal Favorite: Sharks Bar and Billiards in Shawnee.
The Fuel House: Automotive lounge/club in a renovated mill house. They have a coffee shop, BBQ, bar, yard games, and more, all while surrounded by other like-minded people. Some members only area but a lot that is open to the public. Kansas City Automative Museum: A small non-profit museum focusing on preserving the automotive history in Kansas City.
