Flight
these 2 airports are typically the easiest and about an hour from the port towns (southampton & portsmouth) where you catch the ferry to the island. london gatwick airport is on a direct train route to portsmouth. london heathrow airport is easier to grab a taxi or rent a car down to southampton or portsmouth, or book a national express coach. there are london underground trains from heathrow, that goes into central london, and you can then take a train to southampton or portsmouth, but this is a longer route.
