How We Met

Met in church, and kept in touch

OLUWADAMILOLA'S POV I met Adekunle one evening after a midweek service in 2022 while I was nearing the end of my nursing internship. I had noticed him sitting behind me during service, but we didn’t speak. As I was leaving, he caught my attention and introduced himself. We exchanged pleasantries, chatted briefly, and he kindly offered to walk me home since it was getting late. Interestingly, about two months earlier, a nurse I worked with had wanted to introduce me to a "gentle" friend she hoped would settle down soon. I declined, as I wasn't comfortable with setups, although she had already sent him a photo from my display picture—one that mainly showed my hair, not my face. After I declined, she told him not to bother. After that first meeting at church, Adekunle and I gradually became friends. He consistently walked me home after services, making sure I got home safely. We had deep, intriguing conversations that revealed his intelligence, maturity, and thoughtful reasoning. Even after I left for my NYSC service year in another state, our friendship only grew stronger. A funny twist came when we later exchanged pictures, and I unknowingly sent him the same photo that the nurse had previously shared. Only then did he realize I was the same person! It felt like our meeting had been inevitable. Five months after we first met, while I was serving elsewhere, Adekunle proposed a relationship. It was a natural progression built on friendship, mutual respect, and shared faith. Adekunle is a true Christian, not just in words but in actions. His life reflects God's love through his peaceful nature, calmness, leadership, and wisdom. He’s patient, respectful, ambitious, and responsible. He corrects me gently, loves me deeply, and has extended that love to my family as well. I feel incredibly blessed to call him mine. Adekunle, you are God’s gift to me, and I am excited and grateful to soon become your wife and build a life together in Christ. ADEKUNLE'S POV It was a Wednesday evening during a midweek service when I first laid eyes on Damilola—the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. I couldn’t take my eyes off her as I sat behind her. But then I noticed a young man sitting beside her. Could he be her husband or fiancé, perhaps? Those were the questions racing through my mind even in church. When we stood for prayers, I saw a ring on the man’s finger and assumed they were married, silently losing hope. I didn't even bother checking her fingers afterward. However, one question lingered in my heart: "Why do I feel such a strong pull toward this woman?" At the end of the service, they went their separate ways without a word or glance between them. That’s when I checked her hand—no ring. Excited, I mustered the courage to say hello, a simple greeting that by God’s grace is now leading us to forever. Interestingly, before I ever joined that church, a friend had tried to set me up with someone who worked at her hospital. She thought we would be a perfect match and even sent a photo. However, the picture didn't capture my attention, and when I heard the person was engaged, I felt relieved. But God's plan was already in motion. Damilola and I met naturally, without any idea of that previous attempt at introduction. After exchanging numbers and going through some pictures she sent me, everything clicked—I realized she was the same person. It was clear that our meeting was divinely orchestrated. Beyond her beauty, Dee is intelligent, kind, confident, honest, and full of grace. She is everything I prayed for and so much more. She is my most beautiful dream come true. I am blessed beyond words to be starting forever with her. Gift Contributions Can Be Sent To: OLUWADAMILOLA HELEN OLOMOLA WEMA BANK – 0234671670 EMMANUEL ADEKUNLE AJE ACCESS BANK – 1223605960
