Tyler & I met in Victoria, TX attending high school at Victoria East High School. Tyler was a sophomore and I was a senior. We had mutual friends and instantly became close friends. Our friendship grew and remained strong as we had always kept in touch throughout the years. We had one college class together (History) at Victoria College and decided to carpool to class every week. Tyler also cheated off of me for daily homework. I still give him a hard time until this day that he would not have passed that class without me. :P We constantly texted and talked on the phone here and there as years went by. Little did we know…
Tyler and I had both just gotten out of serious relationships. We had vented and offered advice even throughout those relationships, helping each other out at best. Once we became single, we noticed we were spending more time together and feelings started to arise. Months went by and I remember asking Tyler, “Are you serious about this? Because I know I have feelings, and if not, we need to stay as friends because I truly value our friendship and would hate to ruin it.” And sure enough, he said he was serious and really wanted to see where things went. We were very optimistic about our future. He asked me to be his girlfriend on October 1st, 2019.
It was the weekend of my 29th birthday and Tyler had planned to take me to San Antonio to celebrate. We had also invited a few close friends to share the weekend with us. On that Saturday night, we all went down to the Riverwalk to see the Christmas lights and take a few pictures of the group. As we get to a spot where my friend Bridget suggested looked like a good spot to take pictures, the group suggested for Tyler and I to take some pictures first before we took a “girls picture.” Little did I know, the entire group already knew that this proposal was already planned and going into action. As Tyler and I posed for a few pictures, Bridget then came up and “fixed” my hair for the next shot. Then I realized Tyler was not next to me anymore so I turned around to find Tyler down on one knee with a ring in a box in his hand. “Will you marry me?” and I replied, “Oh sh!t, are you serious?!?!?….Hell yeah!!!!” (How our hashtag became #HellYeahToHessler) Our friends were all secretly recording, (I literally thought they were all just taking pictures.) And everyone started screaming and celebrated as I said YES. Definitely one of the happiest days of my life!
