Our big adventure began with a 94% match on OkCupid (an online dating site). When we first gazed at each other's hiking footwear in Chestnut Hill Park, we knew it was a match made in hiker-heaven. Mike planned ahead and wore trail runners. Helen casually showed up for the hike in flip flops. After the first few dates, Mike's parents asked "So when do you think you'll go on an indoor date?” True to us, we planned another hike, this time on Franconia Ridge in New Hampshire. It was Helen's first hike in the White Mountains. There were muddy trails, patches of snow, and numerous falls. Somehow, we were still together at the end of the hike. One thing led to another and we soon found ourselves adventuring on Katahdin, the highest mountain in Maine. It was a major step in our relationship. Helen took one look at the mountain and said, “This will do.” Mike said, “Good, because Katahdin and I are a package deal.” Since that first trip to Katahdin, we’ve climbed many mountains together, literally and metaphorically. With every adventure we learn more about each other and we fall deeper in love. In February, Mike proposed to Helen at Chimney Pond, overlooking the snow-covered peaks of Katahdin. We can’t wait to start our next adventure together and we’re so excited to celebrate with our friends and families!
