Pisa is equidistant to the venue from Florence. Depending on your preferences and travel plans, this is another viable option.
Travel Note
On the days of the events, we plan to provide shuttles from Empoli, the nearest town (more information to follow). You do have several options for traveling to your accommodations from the airport you fly into. Public Transit: The first option is taking a train from Florence airport to Empoli (the station is directly next to the airport, within 2 minute walk of the exit). There is one transfer with a short walk. This takes between 45 to 55 minutes. From personal experience, the trains are easy to use, cheap, and clean. We generally use Google Maps for public transport. Private Transit: You can also rent a car, which will allow you the freedom to explore the surrounding area. To get to Empoli from Florence, it can be 30 minute to 1 hour drive (sometimes hectic depending on your comfort level with small streets and traffic) if you do choose to rent a car. Please note that you do need an International Driving Permit to drive a car in Italy, although rental car agencies do not always request to see it. This is very easily obtainable from local AAA for $20 within 10-15 minutes. Finally, you can choose to hire a shuttle or taxi from the airport or your location of choice (approximately 45-60 euros to Empoli). For larger groups, there is an option to rent shuttles from various websites such as airporttaxis.com or knopkatransfer.com.
Travel Note
Passports: For US citizens traveling to Italy, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months past your anticipated departure date for entry into any EU country or the Schengen Area (which includes Italy). If your passport is valid for less than 6 months, an immigration officer may deny you entry. For guest from other countries, this requirement may differ. Please make sure that your passport meets your country specific requirements well in advance! Visas: As of October 2021, U.S. citizens do not need a visa to travel to Italy for stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism or business purposes. This falls under the visa waiver program which allows U.S. citizens to enter Schengen Area countries, including Italy, visa-free for short visits. However, citizens from other countries, such as India, do require a tourist visa to enter Italy even for stays less than 90 days. Please follow the below link to determine if you require a visa to enter Italy for our wedding.
