On September 16, 2019, Helena decided to leave her hometown and set out to explore her dream country—the USA. She had no idea how life-changing this journey would be. Just a few days after arriving in Narberth, Pennsylvania, Helena went to a nearby American-style bar with a French au pair friend. As they chatted in French, Helena’s limited English kept their conversation going in her native language. Suddenly, a man approached and asked, “Do you speak French?” Surprised, she answered, “Yes, of course! I am French!” He smiled and replied, “I never forgot that beautiful language.”(If you know, you know!) She didn’t know that that men would become her future husband. At that moment, both their lives took a new direction. What started as seeing each other a few times a month turned into every weekend, then every day—and soon, they couldn’t imagine life apart. With dreams and ambition driving them forward, they each chose to pursue their education—Helena in interior design and Luis in law. However, Helena needed to return to France briefly to change her visa to a student visa, a challenging step for a young couple who had been together for less than a year. But the two months spent on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean only proved the depth of their love. They stayed connected, supporting each other as they continued their journey together from afar. When Helena returned, Luis drove to New York to pick her up, and the joy of reuniting was indescribable. Within a week, they decided to take the next step and plan their lives together. In June 2021, Helena and Luis moved in together, and since then, they’ve felt like the happiest couple in the world. Fast forward to March 2024, with only two months before graduation for both. Helena’s best friend Helene invited her out for a girls' night. A simple dinner turned into a magical evening when, just as the dessert menu was being served, Helene excused herself. The waitress brought out a “special” dessert menu for Helena written by Luis. A menu that recounted the beautiful journey of their love story. As Helena read, her emotions welled up, and then—unexpectedly—Luis appeared by her side. (He was supposedly in Philly at a barbecue with friends!) Luis proposed to her, and, of course, you can imagine that Helena said a resounding “YES!” After four years together, they are now preparing for the most meaningful day of their lives, celebrating their love with all those dearest to them. Through these years, they’ve shared incredible moments, growing together and always finding ways to strengthen their bond.
