Heather's Perspective: While attending ASU I encountered a mishap that lead to my bike tire popping. My bike was my main transportation getting to and from classes, and of course this happened right at the peak of the summer heat so walking, which takes infinitely longer, to and from classes was pretty miserable. Even though I equipped myself with all the tools necessary to fix it, my roommates and I could not get the screw undone in order to get the tire off my bike. My super helpful roommate and now bridesmaid, Alena, suggested this would be a perfect excuse to meet our neighbors who could be cute. Knowing that the neighbors diagonal from us looked about our age I headed outside to go over and ask them. However when I walked outside there were a bunch of guys (who looked seemingly normal enough) standing on the sidewalk right in front of my house and decided they were closer so I'll just ask one of them. Eventually I got their attention and asked if one of them could help me loosen a screw on my bike. After a long pause they all decided to volunteer Nick who came inside to assist. It took him a only little effort to get the screw off (because he's so strong) and then offered to finish the rest of it. Then after a little sweat (because we kept our house at perfect 80 degrees) and reading the instructions to find the correct PSI amount (which old Heather thought you just pumped until firm, but now new Heather knows it is important that the PSI correct) my bike was as good as new! Then our love story continued when he came back to our house the next night and invited me and my roommates to hang out with him and his roommates. Eventually we started spending most weekends together, then most weekdays, and then finally he asked me out on a proper date.
Nick's Perspective: My friends and I had just come back from a birthday dinner for Jeremy Martinjako (now one of my groomsmen). Since there was quite a few of us, we had to park across the street from my house and directly in front of Heather's. For one reason or another, we wound up talking and hanging out around the cars before going back into my house. That's when Heather came outside and asked for someone to help her with her bike. At this time in my life I was still phasing out of my hipster years while going to ASU so of course I owned a fixie (fixed gear bike) and had a few other bikes the previous years. I'm not sure if my friends held a high level of respect for my bike repair skills or simply that I was Heather's neighbor (probably the latter), but either way they all decided that I should help Heather with her tire. I was too shy to volunteer myself so I'm lucky my friends had encouraged me to step forward and help. As I walked into the house to assess the tire situation, I immediately began to feel how warm the house was. I thought well this can't take too long so I'll be fine. I was wrong. After about two minutes my face started getting damp and I could feel sweat dripping down my neck. Although I had successfully fixed her tire, I felt a bit embarrassed because now I was standing in her living room covered in sweat. It was not a great first look but I must have made a good enough impression otherwise because it didn't scare her away. After leaving, I just remember thinking how cute Heather was and I had to find another way to talk to her. We conveniently lived right next to Four Peaks Brewing so Brent Huddleston (my best man) and I decided that we should ask them to hangout and grab some drinks. We began seeing each other a lot more until eventually I asked her out on a real date.
