The Story

As with so many modern love stories, this one started online. Our intrepid hero and absolutely not the writer of this story, Daniel, got Elisa's number from a friend he matched with on Hinge. His first text read as follows: "Well I'm just gonna lean into the weirdness of this situation. Hi! I'm Daniel..." Shortly thereafter, the two were sharing margaritas and charcuterie on the Georgetown waterfront. They shared laughs, childhood stories, and drinks as the sun slowly sunk over the Potomac. Daniel loved the way the dying sun hit her hazel eyes, but he was keeping it relatively cool, so he didn't tell her. All couples eventually go through struggles together, and how they react to them defines their relationships. Our wise and courageous hero decided to fast-track this process by inviting Elisa on a 2-day, 30-mile death march through the Appalachians for their third date. Surprisingly, she accepted. Even more surprisingly, she laughed and joked through two days of blisters, tent spiders, and a dozen or so thousand-foot ridges, and then stuck around with our planning-averse hero afterwards. At this point, Daniel knew she was something special, but he was desperately attempting to maintain his cool, so he didn't tell her that. Over the next year, the two became inseparable. They snorkeled and fished in the crystal blue waters of Key West, hiked the peaks of the Smoky Mountains, and rowed a raft of octogenarians down New River Gorge. They met friends and family, discussed their future, and whatever cool Daniel had initially evaporated. Long story short, they fell in love. On a drizzly DC day earlier this year, Daniel got down on one knee in front of the Washington memorial, and asked Elisa to be his person forever. She said yes, but only if he agreed to never write out a story of their love online for everyone to read. Our daring hero does not take instruction well. He's also making that last part up. Anyways, we look forward to seeing all of y'all in Florida on the 18th!
