In the spring of 2019 after returning home from serving a mission for her church in South Korea, Heidi, reluctant to jump back into the dating scene, refused to attend the local LDS singles ward and opted to attend her family ward in Parker, Colorado. Despite her efforts, she was roped into joining a band as the guitarist for a talent show that some friends from the singles ward were putting on. Realizing she had overscheduled, Heidi had to quit the band, much to the dismay of a certain amateur drummer named Zach who sent her an angry (and flirtatious) message on Facebook. Soon after, Heidi hosted a game night and Zach was the first person to arrive. After a night of fun, Zach asked the group if they wanted to visit the local LDS temple the next day. It turned out that Heidi was the only one available to go. Realizing that they had more in common than they had first thought, Zach and Heidi talked and joked together afterward, watched River Monsters at Zach's apartment, and ate pie. Before leaving, Zach asked Heidi to dinner the next evening, where he impressed her with his cooking skills, terrible jokes, and amazing tree-climbing abilities. Unfortunately, Heidi had to leave a week later to go back to college in Idaho and her family moved to Utah soon after. A year later, Heidi transferred to the University of Utah to study sculpture while Zach continued his medical training in Colorado Springs. After many long phone conversations, video calls, letters, and a couple of visits when in town, Zach and Heidi decided to begin dating long-distance. For another year, Zach traveled a lot for hospital rotations in Colorado and the midwest while Heidi stayed busy with school and a part-time job. After agreeing that they never wanted their relationship to end, they decided to get married. When Zach finished his last rotations and interviews for medical school, he got a job as an emergency medicine resident in Michigan and graduated as a doctor of osteopathic medicine. Heidi was accepted to Western Michigan University where she could finish her degree and took her last finals for the semester in Utah. Zach took Heidi on a hike the next morning where he proposed to her at the place they had shared their first kiss nearly a year and a half earlier. And guess what? She said YES!
