Heidi was a junior in college when Jacob was finishing his Masters year at Saint Louis University. Both at the same end of the school year celebration, (probably the last day their lives would overlap as Jacob was graduating) Heidi and Jacob met. Heidi's response to being asked to dance was an odd question, one to this day she has no idea why she asked. She said to Jacob, "Are you a cat person, or a dog person." Jacob, probably regretting talking to her at this point said, "I'm a dog person, but cats are ok." Heidi responded, "Good enough for me." and they headed to the dance floor. They were head over heels for each other from that night on! A year later Jacob bought Heidi a kitten, Arya, and Heidi can safely say he is definitely a cat person now.
June 10, 2016 Jacob was taking Heidi to Chicago for an early birthday celebration with her family. Outside of the city, Heidi was asked to blindfold herself so Jacob could take her to her birthday surprise. Curious, and having ruined surprises in the past on accident, Heidi obliged without questions. Hours later through Friday evening city traffic, they finally arrived at their destination. However, instead of being in Chicago, they were at the beautiful Lake Michigan lake house in Michigan City where Heidi spent her high school summers at with her friends. This being the birthday surprise, Heidi was ecstatic since she had not been there in years. Being able to finally calm Heidi down, Jacob convinced her to take a quick walk on the beach before they would head back to get ready for a dinner reservation. On the beach the second surprise took place as Jacob proposed to Heidi in the sand dunes where she immediately said, "Of course!" In the house, celebrating with some champagne, Jacob announced his third surprise and told Heidi that not only were they staying the entire weekend, but being joined by his family and hers. Two hours later the house was filled with 12 of their closest family members who to Heidi's amazement had all been in on the secret for months.
