How We Met

9:30 Club Washington, DC

Tuesday, June 11, 2013 - Francisco (Cisco) saw a post from an old high school friend, Farah, about an extra ticket to a long time sold out Animal Collective show; Cisco did not hesitate and immediately contacted her. Unbeknown to Cisco, Heidi and Farah, friends from elementary school, had planned to meet up at the same show; Cisco was instantly captivated by Heidi's glittering energy. We had some small talk and Cisco bought Heidi an Anchor Steam beer which quickly became a Summer favorite. We still remember the energy present on that 9:30 Club balcony; it was heavily concentrated around our arms which were mere inches apart - it was a warm energy that made us wonder about the significance of fate and how that random connection we shared that night would be felt for decades. After an unforgettable show, a cold beer at a local pub, and a missed last train home, we walked to Cisco's office rooftop to talk some more about our lives. The more we learned about it each other, laughing at all of Cisco's spontaneous jokes and pondering on some of Heidi's curious questions, the more comfortable we felt. We danced to The Talking Heads, gazed dreamingly into the night sky, and at 3am we said "hasta la proxima!"

The Engagement

Bodie Island Lighthouse

Sunday, August 5, 2018 - It was a hot and sunny Summer day when Cisco decided to wear a raincoat to ensure Heidi wouldn't notice the tiny square box in his pocket; the surprise slowly evaporated, but the memory of that Summer day shines very bright. Heidi had just woken up, but she easily read Cisco, who was very eager to catch the sunrise before Heidi's family woke up during one of the famous family beach weeks. The lighthouse was completely empty this early in the day except for a lone pelican in the distance. We walked up the walkway, local coffees in hand, towards a raised platform deep in the marshes. We watched the sun as it climbed the cloudless sky and shared our thoughts and wishes. Cisco's wishes gradually became more romantic as Heidi tried to hide her joyful smile from an already kneeling Cisco. The big question was asked, Heidi turned around with her resounding "yes," and we embraced the moment with laughter and tears of joy. We savored every second before sharing the moment with our family and friends.

The Wedding

We got married last year! It was a beautiful ceremony with our families. We were so grateful for the opportunity to create such a wonderful memory in the middle of the most uncertain time in generations. There were tears, smiles, laughs, and so many cheers on the longest day of the year! We were sad that most of our friends and extended families were unable to join us, but we are almost out of this strange chapter in our lives and look forward to celebrating our anniversary with everyone who is able to join us this June.
