It all started on Catalina Island in September 2020— mid pandemic. Hector had moved to the U.S. from Mexico City just a year before, and I had just graduated from college. Fate (and our employer) brought us to the same company, where we first met at a happy hour with coworkers. Hector's first words to me? A very direct, "Who are you?"—which, admittedly, caught me off guard. But that moment sparked something. We spent our days on the island laughing, getting to know each other, and soaking up every carefree moment. When work was slow, Hector would call me from his store, and we’d plot ways to convince our boss to give us the same days off—just so we could have more time together. We soon realized that, despite our differences, we just fit. We balance each other in all the right ways and have been a great team ever since.
Hector truly outdid himself with the proposal! We were visiting Cabo for the first time to attend a wedding, and I’ll admit—I was growing more and more impatient, wondering if this would finally be the trip. Our first full day was spent exactly how it should be in paradise: relaxing on the beach, swimming in the pool, and soaking up the sun. The hotel had invited us to make a dinner reservation at their restaurant, so I thought nothing of it when Hector suggested we get ready for a nice evening out. Before dinner, he insisted we take a sunset walk along the beach. As we strolled along the shore, the sky painted in the most stunning shades of pink and blue, Hector got down on one knee. And in true Hector fashion, the ring box was backwards. We both burst into laughter as he turned it around and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes! But the surprises didn’t end there—Hector had planned a private dinner on the beach, complete with rose petals, a fire pit, and champagne. It was truly the most beautiful night, and one we’ll never forget.
Mexico City isn’t just where Hector grew up—it’s a place that quickly became special to both of us. He took me there for the first time in December 2021, and I instantly fell in love. Beyond the incredible food (which, trust us, is reason enough to visit), the city is bursting with beauty, culture, and vibrant energy. When it came time to choose where we would say “I do,” there was no question—Mexico City was the perfect place. It was important to us that all of Hector’s family in Mexico could be part of our celebration. We can’t wait to share this amazing city with all of you and celebrate surrounded by the people we love most!
