We matched on Tinder and, in true Ben fashion, he went all in. He planned our first date on his birthday and chose axe throwing as the activity. Because what could go wrong meeting a stranger from the internet and immediately handing them a weapon? Somehow, it worked. Then an unexpected ice storm rolled in and stranded us together. One night turned into waking up next to each other on Valentine’s Day. First date, birthday, sleepover, and Valentine's all in one. Totally unplanned. Weirdly perfect.
Allie had fully accepted that she might graduate college without ever having a boyfriend- by choice, obviously. Then six days before graduation, she brought up the idea of dating Ben. He didn’t even ask. He just nodded and said, “Why not.” And that was that. Officially a couple. Pretty solid outcome for a relationship that began with a shrug and a “why not.” Our rehearsal dinner falls on May 15th, which just happens to be our five-year anniversary. Clearly, we’re good at timing, even if we’re a little unconventional.
Ben proposed at Traveler’s Fountain in Rotary Park in Cape May. He knew Allie would want her nails done, so he secretly packed press on nails for the trip. But Allie, who needs to know everything at all times, found them right away and thought, “Yep, it’s happening.” After dinner, they went for a walk. Ben kept asking where she wanted to go, and Allie was thinking, “Aren’t you the one proposing?” Eventually, they made it to the fountain, and Ben got down on one knee. Allie said yes, and Cape May has been their favorite place ever since.
