Heather and Riley first met in 2015 at the JW Marriott in Downtown Los Angeles. Riley was on tour with his band, Before You Exit, and Heather was in town to see the band he was touring with. From the hotel hot tub, Riley saw Heather walk by and felt like he had to talk to her. They exchanged info and spent his off-day together. Something clicked right away. Riley moved from Florida to Los Angeles in 2016 to pursue songwriting and producing for other artists, and Heather would visit whenever her dad had a work trip… or simply because she wanted to see Riley. He always told her she should move, but she was coaching gymnastics back in New Jersey and it was hard to leave the girls she loved. In 2020, the world shut down, and so did her coaching work. It was bittersweet, but it made the pull toward LA undeniable. She signed with a modeling agency, and in early 2021 she finally made the move. From the day she arrived, Heather and Riley were inseparable. Two months later, on 4.20.21, right before Riley left for a flight, he said, “Don’t miss your boyfriend too much.” Heather rolled her eyes but he said, “No, I’m serious.” She burst into tears at the Blue Bottle coffee shop. From then on, they texted “Happy 4:20” every day at 4:20pm, which is why Riley proposed exactly four years and twenty days later. Very early on, Riley worried about how to balance his relationship with music with the one he was beginning to build with Heather. Heather said, “I don’t think there will ever be a time when you’re not passionate about music, and I want to be the one who’s there with you along the way.” It was a grounding moment for both of them, and it set the tone for everything that followed. A month after they started dating, Riley signed his publishing deal. A year later, he had his first number one. They have always felt that timing was not a coincidence, and Riley has always felt Heather has been his biggest muse. In the five years they have been together, Heather and Riley have traveled to more countries than they could count on both hands. But along the way, they realized something true about themselves. The biggest memories rarely came from the biggest plans. It was carving pumpkins, random trips to Florida, late-night poker, binging shows, grocery runs, inside jokes. The simple things have always been their favorite part. After a long, heartfelt conversation with Heather’s dad, Louis, Riley knew it was time. And after years of long-distance flights and finally landing in the same place, here they are. Ready to celebrate the next chapter with the people who watched it unfold.
