Our first date was March 14, which is also Todd's birthday. We went to a sushi place for lunch and were the only people there. We talked for hours and when we were done neither of us wanted the date to end, so we decided to go get pie in honor of Todd's birthday and because it was actually pi day as well. We talked for hours about music and travel and just life. We both knew right away that this was something special. A few days later the state shut down for the quarantine, so we were only able to hang out at each other's apartments, which was perfect for us.
The record release in May for Todd's band Downcity Armory had to be canceled due to Covid restrictions, so once the restrictions were lifted somewhat, they decided to do a listening party at Alchemy in Providence. Heather was nervous since this would be the first time she was going to meet several of Todd's good friends, including his bandmate Rick. We hung out for a while until the party started. Todd and Rick got up before playing the album to give some background on how the album came to be and the struggles they had both gone through to get there. Todd said that the album is dark and dystopian but that he couldn't have made it if he didn't have any hope for the future. Todd reached into his backpack and pulled out a small box and said, "To prove it, I'm going to do this" and jumped off the stage. He walked over to Heather, opened the box, looked straight into her eyes and said, "Will you marry me??" Heather emphatically said "Yes!" and the rest is history....
