This is one of our favorite chill spots! When you arrive to Vilano Beach and north of the community along the coast is a huge stretch of nature preserve. It truly helps maintain the natural beauty of Florida and makes for sure a pleasant experience. Last October we took a guided kayak tour on the river at night to witness the seasonal bio-luminescent jellyfish! It was an amazing experience that we highly recommend! There are also great walking trails that lead to different bodies of water. We saw a bald eagle on our last trip which was just spectacular. We recommend making this an early morning activity before the temperature rises. Last note, there is a actually camp ground right along this area too that has been there for years, it’s directly across from “The Reef” and is owned by the same family. So if camping is more your speed take a look at that location as well!
Okay, so you all know I am a plant fanatic. I truly appreciate them so much and they make me very happy!! When I discovered this nursery I FLIPPED!! It’s almost like being in a botanical gardens, not only do they have stunning tropical plants in a shapes and sizes, they have an enormous selection of Spanish style hand painted pottery that is equally enjoyable to look at! This would make for a great after lunch trip to walk off any yummy food you had in downtown St. Augustine as this is on Anastasia Island just across the bridge that connects the downtown area with the island. Moral of the story : leave room in your car to take home a few plants from here! It’s impossible to visit and not want to take a few home!
If you plan on visiting for the whole weekend and will be there here on Saturday you’ve got to go check out the St. Augustine Farmers Market, it’s on Saturday from 8:30-12:30. You will find delicious local veggies and lots of local art! From fresh eggs, to carved blue herons and tie dye there is a something for everyone! It’s just a few minutes down the from Leonardis Nursery so make sure to stop there too!
