For those of you who don’t know, Key West is like our second home. We love it so much that we own a condo there and visit multiple times a year. That being said, we usually avoid going in July—Heather’s not a fan of the intense heat and humidity. But somehow, Louis managed to convince her to make an exception for a long 4th of July weekend getaway. On the evening of Saturday, July 5th, we hopped on our bikes and rode over to one of our favorite local spots: Garbo’s Grill at Hank’s Hair of the Dog Saloon. We grabbed some dinner, drinks, and enjoyed the live music—just the kind of night we love. After dinner, we biked over to Fort Zachary Taylor Beach, which in our opinion offers some of the most beautiful sunsets in the country. We took a short stroll along the beach, soaking in the golden hour light, then we stumbled upon a romantic teepee picnic setup with champagne, sweet treats, and flowers—something Louis had secretly planned in advance. As we took photos and enjoyed the moment, Louis pulled out his phone and started playing a video. It was our favorite (former) Key West musician, Sheldon, performing an acoustic version of our song, Tenerife Sea by Ed Sheeran. Heather was completely caught off guard. Louis FINALLY got down on one knee and proposed, just as the sun was setting over the Gulf of America. It was everything we could have dreamed of and perfectly us!! We couldn’t have asked for a more meaningful place or moment to take this next step in our journey together.
