It did all start with a handshake, but how did we get there? Heather and Jeff met online, as many often do these days. But what makes that interesting is the fact that Heather herself did not swipe right on Jeff! A coworker of hers did, but Jeff was none the wiser. After some chitchat online, they decided to meet! It was around Thanksgiving 2016, Jeff was in St. Louis at the time for the holiday and had to delay his drive back to Kansas City... meaning he had to cancel (postpone, he would say) their plans. Heather decided to give him another shot, though, and penciled him in for a quick drink after work on a Wednesday night before her Karaoke League (yes, league) started. Was she skeptical? Of course! She'd just arrived at the meeting spot, and when Jeff walked in, he went for the "casual-friendly half hug." What did Heather do? She put out her hand for a handshake, later saying something along the lines of, "Hell no, I didn't know you, and didn't want any kind of hug!" They hit it off that night, finding common ground in things like a love of Star Wars (ask her about Jeff's "Yoda Voice") and whiskey on the rocks. Things were going so well that Heather invited Jeff to her Karaoke League, and he tagged along. He'd been wondering why she had walked into the restaurant with a bag full of Disney toys and props, but it made more sense when he found out that it was Disney Week for the League. Against all sensible intuition, the two ended up seeing each other something like four times over the next week and the rest, as they say, is history!
