While I grew up in the Mississippi Delta, and Eric in the mountains of Colorado, we both wound up in Minnesota. We also both gave online dating a try, and happened to hop on the same site at the same time. That experience had been less than impressive for each of us, but the day I logged in to delete my account, there was one final unopened message in my inbox. Well, I obviously responded and the connection was real. This progressed from Christian Mingle to text messages and on to phone calls, until we made plans to see each other in person! It was quite romantic when we met for the first time, where we shared our first hug next to a huge dumpster in a parking lot in South Minneapolis. There was no turning back after that.
Fast forward approximately 2 years and we had overcome multiple challenging circumstances in life, survived the global pandemic for basically our whole relationship, and made the distance between Rochester and Minneapolis really work. Despite these years being some of the hardest years we had ever faced, they were also the best. Not to mention, watching my daughter fall in love with Eric always kept my heart warm. With all of that being said, I'll get to the actual moment he popped the question. As August arrives, we journey north for the annual Moore family trip where we get to unplug from the daily and relax outdoors for the week with his entire immediate family... we're talking swimming, fishing, golfing, pickle ball, sunburns, hot dog eating contests, and root beer floats. Wednesday, August 11th rolls around and evening is approaching. It's been a full day, but Eric has planned to take me for a boat ride around the lake. I remember the sunset is stunning coming across the water. It becomes really quiet on the boat for a moment and I could tell something was different. Before I could figure out what was happening, Eric is on his knee with the most beautiful ring I could imagine. I was in so much shock that I don't really remember how I reacted, but I know I said YES, and I know I felt an overwhelming amount of joy and peace. When we get back on land, his whole family is ready to see the ring, my whole family had already given him the blessing, and even Ember was able to keep it a secret from me! I was the last to know but also the most blessed.
