The Talimena National Scenic Byway, a breathtaking 54-mile route in southeast Oklahoma, is known for its spectacular views. Designated by the U.S. Department of Transportation as an official National Scenic Byway, Talimena Drive was built specifically to highlight the area's beautiful foliage and spans one of the highest mountain ranges between the Appalachians and the Rockies.
The City of Mena, Ark., located just 13 miles east of the park, boasts a city park with two spring-fed ponds, a historic cabin, and a block away is the old Kansas City Southern depot that features a train museum and the Mena/Polk County Chamber of Commerce. If you like antiquing, downtown Mena has several shops. Near Mena are Lum & Abner's Jot-Em-Down Store, the Little Missouri Falls, Cossatot River State Park-Natural Area, and other attractions.
Located atop Rich Mountain, Arkansas’ second highest peak, Queen Wilhelmina offers some of the most breathtaking views in the state from the fully renovated lodge. This site is as rich in history as it is in scenery. The original lodge was built in the late 1800s as a Victorian resort named Wilhelmina Inn to honor the young Queen of the Netherlands.
