Chris and Heather met on an online dating app. Chris reached out to Heather and introduced himself by using the cheesiest line. Once Heather responded, the two engaged in a conversation that consisted of quick wit, humor, and "married couple" banter. They went on their first date a few days later and have been inseparable ever since. Heather's dog Sisqo quickly took to the "tall man" as well, and that's when Heather knew Chris was something special.

Heather lost both her grandparents in May of 2021. They would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on June 12. On June 12, Chris took Heather to the jewelry store, let her pick out exactly what she wanted, and asked her to marry him. Unbeknown to Heather, Chris called Heather's brother in advance to ask for her hand in marriage.
