How We Met

Autumn 2009

Our romance was a long time in the making. Austin and I met in the fall of our freshman year of college. He went to Roanoke College with a friend of ours, and I would see him when I came to visit her from my alma mater, Radford University. However, we really didn't become friends until after we graduated when a we would take turns visiting each other with a couple of our mutual friends. After going on a few dates with people I found either uninteresting or unbecoming, I just wanted someone that I clicked with who was smart, kind, attractive, trustworthy, and a good friend. Austin was all of those things; therefore, in November of 2015, I went down to visit him and see if there was anything between us. After vacationing together with family over New Year's Eve at the Outer Banks, we officially started dating on January 10, 2016.

The Proposal

June 25, 2019

After dating long-distance for 3 wonderful years full of adventures, Austin and I started looking for a home we could share in the same town. We decided on a lovely place in Staunton. In June of 2019, on a beach vacation with friends in Oak Island, Austin proposed to me while walking on the beach one morning. He knelt down at the edge of the water and asked me to marry him, revealing my paternal grandmother's redesigned engagement ring in a wooden ring box he had made himself. I said yes, and we were quickly joined by our friends with a bottle of Caol Isla to celebrate in the sand & sunshine.
