Despite growing up just a 3 hour drive from one another, we didn't formally meet until Andy was living clear across the country in Las Vegas and Heather was still living in Pittsburgh. Heather took a girls trip to Vegas to celebrate her friend Natalie's birthday. Natalie invited her friend Andy to join, who she knew from spending summers at Lake Chautauqua. Andy joined the girls' Vegas adventures for the rest of the trip and Andy and Heather connected instantly. Even with 2,000 miles between us at first, we knew we had something special!
Andy proposed on Christmas Eve 2020 surrounded by Heather's immediate family. The proposal plan hinged on Heather leaving the room for a few minutes so Andy could hang the ornament he had special ordered up on the Christmas tree. Unfortunately for everyone, Heather didn't act according to plan and sat in plain view of the Christmas tree for more than 2 hours longer than anybody thought she would. Eventually, she left the room and came out to find an extra special ornament on the tree asking if she'd marry Andy along with Andy down on one knee!
