We met through an online dating website. I messaged Andrew because it seemed that we shared a lot of common interests and were said to be 98% compatible (and yes, I take all the credit for us meeting and being together!). After we started messaging, we decided to have our first date over one of those common interests, our love of sushi. Unfortunately, Andy got sick on what would have been our first date. Andy apologized and I jokingly said it would cost him an Old Fashioned, which he of course came through on. After finally meeting for the first time, it was an instant connection and we felt like they knew each other so well. We spent several hours talking, before ending the night with our first goodnight kiss and the rest is history...
After a few months of dating, we took a walk down by the De Pere locks. That's where Andy first told me that he loved me, which I of course said in return because I had been waiting to tell him the same! Each year, on our anniversary, we add a lock to the bridge. Fast forward to Sept. 2020: After a long work week, we decided to grab a bite to eat and go for a walk. We had often walked on the Fox River trail and down by the locks, since Andy first said I love you to me, so I didn't think anything of it when we were walking down there once again. It got chilly after we were finished eating, so I threw on one of Andy's old hunting flannels. We wanted to go check out our locks on the bridge, but a bunch of teenage boys were fishing there, so we walked out on the bridge area. On our way back off the bridge, cops were kicking the boys out because it clearly said "no fishing allowed". We were then able to walk over to check out our locks. I was fixing one of our locks, when I turned around to find Andy on one knee, asking if I would marry him. I was completely caught off guard. He didn't lead on about anything the whole night and he didn't come off as nervous (which later he said he didn't remember what he said because he was indeed so nervous!). Of course, I said YES! and haven't stopped smiling since! Apparently I almost ruined the surprise when Andy had to get his flannel out of his truck storage because the ring bag was hidden in there. To make the night even sweeter, Andy told me that he had shown the ring to Harper and got his approval before proposing. To include Harper in something so special made me cry happy tears. Harper and Andy's connection and love for each other is incredible. Both Harper & I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful man in our lives.
