I was on a date with Heath's roommate (who happened to be an old friend of mine) when Heath came home and decided to start sweeping the floor while we ate dinner. He was and still is a clean freak :) Something about him caught my eye and I just knew I wanted to get to know him. Several nights later he walked me home and I managed to get his number by telling him he needed to let me know he got back home safely. I can be quite clever like that. We started talking and hanging out. Heath remembered me from the Biology class we both took my sophomore year and I remembered him as one of my residents while I was an RA. On September 5, 2012 we made it official!
We were on a much anticipated vacation/road trip to see one of our favorite bands play at Red Rocks Amphitheater again. I had been dreaming and hoping that he was going to propose on this trip, but I was also trying to not get my hopes up in case it didn't happen. The day before the concert we decided to go hike my first 14'er. We got to Mt. Democrat and started hiking in the morning. I was tired and cold and cranky and basically just cursing the entire idea of hiking up a 14,000 foot mountain. Heath was so adamant that we get to the summit. I knew he was acting weird and in my head I kept saying, "He better not propose to me on the top of this God forsaken mountain because I look absolutely awful and I feel like passing out." When we finally got to the summit he stood me up and quoted these heartfelt song lyrics and started to take off my glove. I finally realized what was happening and completely forgot all about being cranky and cold. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and I just couldn't believe it was really happening so the first thing I said was, "FOR REAL?!" And I wasn't hallucinating from the thin air at the top of that mountain, he was indeed, for real. I said yes and the crowd (the literal crowd that had now started watching because someone had yelled, "Oh my god he's proposing!") starting clapping and cheering! It was perfect and beautiful...and cold :) and we will remember that moment forever!
