It all started around December 2015. A mutual friend on Twitter asked her followers to tweet their smiles and suddenly there was Glen. He had the prettiest smile and was in his Navy Sprint Football uniform. I made a subtle compliment which resulted in Glen direct messaging me. With Glen being in Annapolis, Maryland and I in Alabama I had zero hope in this possible relationship going somewhere. We kept in touch and later decided to give it a chance. Glen traveled to Alabama to visit me one day and from that day forward we were one as of May 12, 2016. We overcame the hassles of a long distance relationship and now I'm taking his last name.
On a day like any other typical day, Twitter was up to its normal shenanigans. A drop your smile challenge appeared on the timeline, and me being me, I dropped an image. A young woman proceeded to state and I quote, “that man has a beautiful smile.” I felt this tweet was about me, and told the young lady to @ me next time, and she replied “@glenofsteel has a beautiful smile.” From that moment we followed each other, until eventually I decided to test the theory that it goes down in the DMs. We exchanged DMs for quite some time, and I later asked for her number so that I may continue to get to know her offline. After an unsuccessful attempt to meet her, I decided to distance myself after being sadly rejected. A month or so goes by and we begin to chat again. This time was different. She engaged me and seemed to grow a sudden interest in who I was. Months go by and we finally meet; it was love at first sight. This began the journey of a bond centered on God and an immeasurable love for one another. Two years into this journey I grew madly in love with her. We had some great times together, and I was ready to seal this fate. After months of praying and speaking to God, my family, and hers, I knew what must be done. I knew it was time to ask her to be Mrs. Harris. On May 6, 2018 I asked this young lady for her hand in marriage. On that date she said YES, and that brings us to the present day to you reading this story in preparation of one night you’ll always remember. The night in which a young woman named Kayla Michelle Edwards becomes Kayla Michelle Harris, the wife of Glendrevious Vonrico Harris.
Friday, May 5, 2018, I graduated from The University of Alabama and the fun festivities and celebration was set to take place in New Orleans, LA. Glen and I traveled to New Orleans that evening and the party began. Saturday, May 6, 2018, we ventured Bourbon Street and had dinner at Felix's Restaurant and Oyster Bar. We were seated on the balcony and the view was beautiful. We finished dinner and the conversation had a turn. Glen became a sap and started going down memory lane. My heart started to race because I just knew this couldn't be it. Moments later our server returned to the table with dessert and Glen was suddenly on one knee. Written on the plate was "Will you marry me?" and of course, ugly-crying, I said YES!
