For almost two years we were living separate lives just two blocks from each other - and we might still be, had it not been for the serendipitous profile pics we each had of hiking with an armcast. Taylor’s was in Colorado with a broken thumb and Christine’s was in Kyrgyzstan with a broken wrist after being thrown off a horse. Thankfully Christine had the good sense to break the ice and invite Taylor to her favorite neighborhood spot to swap adventure stories of healed bones. We spent our first date at Wild Detectives connecting over stories from our shared background in hotels before wandering over to Tribal for some late night libations and musing about an adventure to Japan together. When we actually booked that trip just two months later we both knew we’d found our person (sadly that Japan trip is postponed). We still consider these spots our favorites in the neighborhood and are places we hope to experience with you alongside us over our wedding weekend!
One of our favorite places to get away is in the mountains of Colorado. In June 2021 we went on a camping trip with intentions to summit Mount Harvard, one of the CO peaks over 14,000ft high and a beautiful hiking district. Both of us had summitted a 14er independently prior to meeting, and we summitted our first together in September 2020. Christine was the first person to successfully summit alongside Taylor and his intentions were to relive that moment, this time with an engagement along with it. After a rainy night in the tent we set off on a clear morning through wildflower meadows and stunning scenery. The higher we climbed however, the closer the clouds rolled in. As we approached the ridgeline where we were within .5 miles and 900ft to the summit, we were overtaken by ominous storm clouds with no visibility. We made the tortured decision to turn back and Christine asked for one last picture to capture the hike before leaving, even though there was nothing to see. As they did, Taylor proposed and managed to take Christine by complete surprise to create a perfect mountainside memory.
