How He Proposed

11.04.2019

I was nervous. I wasn't sure how it would happen but I knew that I would know the right time and place. We traveled to New York City with some friends, to visit more friends, and to experience the city in the fall. I spent the whole week with the ring in my jacket pocket in anticipation. There are many romantic spots in the city but I knew it had to be Central Park, which unfortunately didn't narrow my options. On the penultimate day of our trip, we took a walk through the park. We stopped at all the spots: Bow Bridge, Bethesda Fountain, Belvedere Castle. Each of these spots are memorable. But I wanted something unique to us. We peeled off into a secluded meadow. The noise and bustle of the park fell away. This was it. "I have something I need to ask you" I had planned on having a much longer monologue. About why I love Hayli and why I chose this spot etc., but this was all I could manage. "I love you so much. Will you marry me?" And she said yes. Both of us besides ourselves with excitement. -Sam

Surprise! We Got Married!

01.01.2020

Initially, when we started planning our wedding at Hayli's grandparents' house in Mexico, we knew that we would have to be legally married in the United States before our ceremony on November 7, 2020. The more we considered our options, the more we thought, "why wait?" We were excited to be married and begin our lives together, and thought it would be best to keep our marriage a secret until our November ceremony when we could celebrate with friends and family. Sam and I gathered together our immediate family, our best man, and our matron of honor, and got married on January 1, 2020. My dad officiated an intimate ceremony at Point Dume in Malibu, where we had our first date. It was a beautiful day. We cried, we laughed, and it was absolutely perfect. I even wore a white dress! When COVID-19 hit, we realized that planning a wedding in Mexico for November may not be a wise decision, so we decided to share our joyous news with our community, hoping that we will all be able to celebrate together, soon. Sam and I will plan a wedding celebration in the future, and will post all updates on our website. We look forward to celebrating our marriage together and are so appreciative of your love and support. Love, Sam & Hayli Evans
