Going back to where it all started! We first met in Williamstown when we were both coaching at Williams College as alumni. Nikola was coaching football and wrestling and Hayley was coaching soccer. Our two friends and fellow coaches were dating and invited us on several unintentional double dates where we discovered not only a mutual love of Settlers of Catan and Roman history, but also the beginning of our relationship. We easily beat the long distance odds and after two years were able to move in together. We are currently living happily in Boston with our two cats, Nemean and Calypso
We flew south to escape the brutal Boston winter and to visit Hayley's family on the island of St. John. Nikola had made big plans to sail around the island and pop the question on the top of a scenic mountaintop. However, after taking a ski to the knee the weekend before the trip, he ended up on crutches with 16 stitches putting an end to the mountaintop proposal. Luckily, St. John has plenty of scenic options to choose from. After a brief phone call with Hayley's parents, Nikola decided to take her to her favorite beach, Maho. We went ashore to a private portion of the beach called Little Maho where we could watch the sunset with a champagne picnic. His biggest concern at the time was not whether she would say yes, but rather if he could get down on one knee. With a cleverly planned distraction of sea shell hunting, he slid down on his knee and asked her to marry him. She said yes!
