One of the best beaches in the state, and right by our venue! Great for kids and for adults. White sandy and clean beach, but get there early! Park along the seawall for free if you can, otherwise you have to pay for parking if you want to be in the lots next to the beach. You will have to pay to walk on, but it's worth it!
Beautiful walk along the ocean with paved walkways. Certain areas will have flat rocks you will have to navigate but the majority of the path is paved. We always park at the end of Shepard Ave in the summer because the colleges are out of session and have had no issues with finding spaces. Several historic mansions from the Gilded Age are along the path. Tours are also available if you want to see the inside of the mansions. Kacie and I did tours of the Breakers and Marble House around Christmas. They are gorgeous inside!
Historic Downtown Newport. Lots of shopping and excellent restaurants. If you are looking for seafood, we would recommend Luke's Lobster at Bowen's Wharf for a lobster roll or Lobster Bar has seating overlooking the water also at Bowen's Wharf. If you want non seafood, Diegos has great Mexican food and Wharf Southern Kitchen and Whiskey Bar are right across from each other (also at Bowen's Wharf). Lots of shopping is available on Thames St.
We frequent this area often as it is right down the street from our house! We love Main St Coffee for a variety of different flavored espresso martinis. Greenwich Oyster Bar is our favorite - we love the "buck a shuck" (available 4-6PM during the week, 12-4PM on weekends), lobster bisque, oak grilled oysters, calamari, and more. Great area for bars and restaurants, few shops here. Great walkability.
If you're looking for a city environment, this is it! Rhode Island is the smallest state, you can get from the city to our beaches and ocean in 45 minutes. Downtown Providence I would recommend the Rooftop at the Providence G for food, drinks, and a great view of the city. If you are here on Saturday - there may be a "Waterfire" event downtown. It's a free and unique experience to walk around the tidal basin and see the lit bonfires floating on the water. Food trucks and other vendors are scattered along the route as well.
