It all started in typical millennial dating fashion - Geraud wrote a cold email to Hayley on online dating website OKCupid. Given Geraud's outbound sales skills, this was the most alluring online message to ever be written (Hayley confirms), involving the Cowboys, Manu Ginobli, and how beautiful Hayley was - not in that order. (Hayley Edit: Definitely in that order.) Several hundred text messages later, we set up our first date. Geraud arrived to pick up Hayley outside of her San Jose apartment, but accidentally scared the hell out of her by leaping out from behind a bush in the pitch-black street, yelling "HEY!" Hayley let out her signature and infectious giant laugh and we were off to the races... Our first date started at a wine bar on Santana Row and turned into a marathon bar crawl of sorts spanning from Friday to Sunday involving a sushi restaurant turned nightclub, speakeasy (where we got kicked out for laughing too loudly), a hot tub, brunchy Packers game in a college bar, and a British pub dinner. We were inseparable after that. ❤
We love to explore the world and have quite a large bucket list. Some of our most memorable trips together include: hiking Bryce and Antelope Canyons, climbing Angels Landing in Zion National Park, our death-defying cliff descension at Lake Louise in Banff, trudging through thigh-high mud in the Amazon Rainforest, trekking up Rainbow Mountain and Machu Picchu in Peru, snorkeling with giant sea turtles in Madagascar, swimming with sharks in Belize, carbo loading in Italy, and sun bathing in Greece. Our favorite trips are closest to home with family — ranch time in Dallas, Texas and catching 22-inch smallmouth bass in Minocqua, Wisconsin.
Geraud and Hayley enjoyed the palm tree life for a year in San Jose before Geraud moved to San Francisco, and Hayley continued to live in San Jose with 4 brosefs. We were a long distance couple for about 2 years, taking turns commuting between San Francisco and San Jose every weekend. Hayley finally moved to San Francisco in Winter 2017, where we lived with our dear friends (the Rich Bros!) in a fun apartment on Polk St. before realizing we were too in love to live with roommates any longer :) Also, that shoe policy. And the toenail bowl. Similar to most everything we decide on, we found our dream apartment on the first day we casually started looking for a new place. We fell in love with our new home nestled in SOMA and immediately filled it with 18 plants (half of which immediately died; RIP Fred) and a full bar.
We took a weekend trip to Venice Beach to get some sun and hang out before a big adventure the following week to Italy and Greece. After a day on the beach, Hayley was getting ready for a night on the town, while Geraud set up a table with champagne on the beach at sunset. Geraud had created a crossword puzzle (which Hayley loves) with clues/answers involving our favorite memories as a couple. As the sun was setting, Geraud walked Hayley out towards the water. The DJ from a house party next door played our favorite love song ("Beyond" by Leon Bridges), and Geraud got down on one knee and proposed! The whole house party cheered us on as we celebrated our life-changing moment.
