Elizabeth made friends with our best friend Ian when she started as a freshman at Western Carolina University in the Fall of 2011. Ian had already been friends with Hayley at school the year before. Ian brought Elizabeth to a movie showing of Twilight at school and had made plans to meet Hayley there as well. There, Ian introduced Hayley to Elizabeth. Little did Elizabeth know she was looking at her future wife.

December 23rd, 2018 Hayley and Elizabeth drove to Garner, NC to spend Christmas with Elizabeth's family as they had many times before. At the time, Elizabeth's mom, Judy, was working at the Cabela's in town and asked if the girls wanted to get a photo with Santa while they were there. When they finally made it to the front, Hayley sat on Santa's lap and began to talk about what she wanted for Christmas. When Santa asked Elizabeth what was on her list, Elizabeth proceeded to get down on one knee and ask Hayley to be hers every Christmas for the rest of their lives.

Already engaged, Hayley and Elizabeth took a trip with Elizabeth's parents, Mike & Judy, to Tiger World, an animal sanctuary, in Rockwell, NC. They walked around, looked at REALLY BIG cats and exotic wildlife that they'd never seen up close before. Elizabeth stood mesmerized as a large tiger devoured its lunch. When she turned around, Hayley was on one knee and let her know she'd always want her, and that it would be awkward if she said no back to marrying her.
