We started our journey at Jacomo Summer Day camp as camp counselors (the same camp we both went to as kids). We definitely became kids again - the environment pushed us to have a playful start to our relationship - from Coby attempting to push Hay off a Kayak, to Hayley making Cob flower crowns, and every little moment in between. It was clear early on we had something for each other, and not long after meeting, June 15th, 2018 was the start of our forever.
In 2020, we began looking for a house to continue growing in. After a handful of walk throughs, we found the perfect starter home in the heart of Kansas City in Waldo. Planting our roots just days before the world went into isolation, we began turning that house into a home. Almost 5 years later and we have done just that - from a near full kitchen remodel, to Coby's detailed attention to lawn care, to just adding the tidbits that represent ourselves. Our home truly reflects both of our personalities, as well as show cases the time and effort it took to the home into our own. It's also reflection for that same time and effort we've poured into each other.
We've created a tradition of going on a Christmas date a week or two before the actual holiday. It gives us a chance to celebrate by ourselves and have a more thoughtful date night. December 15th of 2023, that date night was planned and going as it had in previous years. Hayley panicking on what to wear, Coby waiting for her to change for the 7th time. But Coby decided to add a surprise for the night. As we were getting ready to leave, Hayley picked up a box off the counter to recycle on their way out, and that's when the smaller box was found. While neither of us have a clear memory of what transpired after, Coby reflected how he wanted to propose where we had spent most of our relationship, where he felt our love had grown and overcome the most. We spent the rest of the evening on that date celebrating and soaking in the moment amongst ourselves, and reflecting on what forever has to bring us. If the end of the story wasn't obvious, she of course said "Yes!"
