It was February 3rd (the night before Ian's birthday), and friends and family gathered for dinner and celebration. All for him - or so I thought! I had a small suspicion that this night would be THE night it was going to happen. I think he realized I had caught on when he saw me painting my nails that morning. All of our friends were present and even his sisters traveled to be there! I always tell him, "I know you are very special, and your birthday deserves to be celebrated...but you don't think your sisters could have just mailed you a card?". He always firmly disagrees that they wouldn't just mail a card. ;) His best friend, Laura, was in on the plan for the night. They were going to have a bar-hop-scavenger-hunt type of thing set up for me, but they played an UNO reverse card on me. Laura convinced me to set up the game for him to play (even though he already knew about it since he was going to do it for me first!) I agreed and made cards with hints on them as to where the next stop would be. I made sure to include the place we met, his favorite spots, and then our favorite spot to go together. We didn't spend much time in each spot - come to find out it's because he just wanted to get home and pop the question! After a delicious dinner at Edgar Bar and a handful of stops at different bars, he lets me know that everyone is going to come over to our place for game night. Mind you, we lived in a tiny one bed/one bath apartment with VERY limited space and seating for all 18 people who were with us. I wasn't exactly ecstatic about this, but figured it was his birthday and we can do whatever he wants! Once we get home and walk inside, I realized just how packed it actually is. I immediately see his mom, Trudy, which surprised me because she said she was going to head home after the last bar. This is where I knew exactly what was happening. As the anxious girly I am...I pick up my dog, Charlee, and try to avoid being in the spotlight. Looking back at a picture someone got of me and Charlee, you can see everyone already has their phones out to take pictures and you can also see the giant ring box hidden in Ian's pocket. I don't know how I missed all of that haha! As we make our way to the center of the room, Ian touches my arm to grab my attention and my sister takes Charlee out of my arms. Ian turns me around and gives me the spiel (to be completely honest, I blacked most of this entire moment out because I was so happy/nervous/excited/honored/etc.) so I can't remember exactly what he said. What I do know is that I immediately said yes and stuck my hand out! I am so lucky to have such a thoughtful man that also happens to be great at planning surprises! I will cherish and think back on this night forever. We cannot wait to make it super-duper official!!! <3
