THE STORY BEGINS: “Close”: They both grew up in the same state – Florida – but were separated by 326 between Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville. Close but not really…. “Closer” In 2010 Hayes graduated from Mandarin High School, then set off for FSU, KA, Potbelly’s and Tennessee Street. In 2011 Sarah graduated from St Thomas Aquinas, then set off for FSU, Pi Beta Phi, Potbelly’s and Tennessee Street. Inexplicably, even after 3 overlapping years of tailgates, Hellenic mixers, social media posts, mutual FSU friends (later discovered to be mutual), and pretty good odds of stumbling into each other on or near campus after school (truly likely to actually be stumbling at the time)… THEY NEVER MET AT FSU! “Closer still”: Both Sarah and Hayes moved to Atlanta in the Fall of 2016, and set about building their careers and making new friends. After those long hours of hard work, boys and girls gotta go play, yet despite attending parties and get-togethers with old FSU pals, frequenting FSU alum bars for game days, and other “low places” in the ATL… another year went by ….AND THEY STILL HAD NOT MET!! “Connection at last”: FSU-ALABAMA, September 2nd, 2017 – at the season opener attended by over 90,000 people, Sarah (with a “friend boy” who asked her to go with him) and Hayes (with KAs and other FSU Homeboys) somehow miraculously gravitated to the same tailgate party just outside the stadium. They saw each other across the boom boxes, coolers, and shot flumes, and the rest, as they say, is history – Sarah ditched the “ friend boy” for a tight seat next to Hayes, FSU lost its quarterback in the 2nd quarter, and our two lovebirds were pretty much bonding by halftime. “Close, but no cigar quite yet”: Sarah learned in Pi Phi Boot Camp (and from Mom) that “ya gotta play hard to get”, which she really, really did try to do. But at a friend’s party nine days later, Hayes’s puppy “Tucker” ate her shoe (Vans), Hayes promptly replaced them, Sarah fell in love with Tucker (and Hayes too lol) and the three of them have been together ever since! “Closer and Closer”: Five years later, countless chewed up shoes, countless Braves games and nights at Monday Night brewery, and countless days at Fetch dog Park, the three….correction…two with bind even closer when they “tie the knot” in a small family ceremony April 15th 2023 in Duck Key, with a blowout “Not-Your Usual -Reception Reception” in Fort Lauderdale May 20th.
