A night of swiping left and right led to one fateful swipe that would change our lives. Tinder was the name of the app, and we were connected instantly. After some awkward conversation about our pets and interests, Michael mentioned a ticket to a comedy show and Maria jumped at the opportunity to invite herself. Our first date was November 9, at the BOB in Grand Rapids. We saw Beth Stelling perform stand up and followed up with drinks and great conversations. We clicked. Cue 2020, the pandemic shook us. We decided to still see each other and it was an even more unique experience because we couldn’t go out or do much. We enjoyed being together doing mundane things… cooking together, watching shows, going for walks, playing with Gavin… it was one of the best times, all things considered. 2021 led to an engagement, and the exciting news of another family member. We were expecting our sweet Cecelia. We’d already become a family, and this just added to our joy. Life was full of unexpected twists and turns but we remained constant. We’ve come this far- building a life and sharing so much love. We are looking forward to finally being married and continuing on this path. Though relationships teach us about showing up and trying every day, this feels effortless and the choice is easy.
