FAQs

If you have questions call or email us. We would be happy to answer it.
Question

Sturbridge Village is an 18th century living museum, what can I expect?

Answer

The Oliver Wight Tavern is on the grounds, but outside of the museum which means there will be both heat and electricity. The atmosphere will be like an historic New England Tavern. When you are inside the grounds for the ceremony, you will be walking on dirt roads, with no cars, and no electricity (but there will be path lighting). There will be heat in the Meetinghouse. The dress is formal, but be smart with footwear options. There will be a horse drawn carry-all available for your enjoyment for transportation between the Visitor's Center and Meetinghouse.

Question

I am not sure I can walk to the Meetinghouse, can I still come?

Answer

Absolutely! We will need to know ahead of time if you need accommodations. We can alert security to allow someone to drop you off at the Meetinghouse on a back road (you must arrive by 4:15pm), however, the car will need to be returned to the lot until the ceremony is over. All buildings are accessible. There will be a carriage ride between the Visitor's Center and the Meetinghouse, it is a short walk from the parking lot to the Visitor's Center.

Question

I have dietary restrictions, what will there be to eat?

Answer

We will have both vegetarian and protein entrees and appetizers. If you have other restrictions, please let us know as soon as your RSVP so we can be in touch with Old Sturbridge Village and see how we can accommodate you.

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

We ask you RSVP by December 1, 2018. It will give us time to compile our finalized guest list for the venue and hopefully reduce stress around Christmas by finishing it early. (Room block deadline is November 30th, walk up reservations at the wedding rate available until the day of the wedding)

Question

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

Answer

The ceremony starts at 5pm, but remember it includes a walk. We will start promptly at 5pm. Please arrive around 4:30pm at the Visitor's center no later than 4:45pm so you have time to arrive at venue before the bride.

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

See the "Travel" tab for hotel information. The hotel block is at the Old Sturbridge Inn and Reeder Family Lodges. The rate is $109 (plus tax) for the lodges and out of town guests are invited to stay there. Reservations are available until the day of the wedding at the wedding rate. Mention the "Hawkes & Hewitt wedding" when booking. The Inn is reserved for the bridal party and parents and grandparents of the bride and groom.
