We met on a Saturday, February 10th, 2024 at a country line dancing bar in Temecula called Stampede. Aubrey had been attending regularly on Thursdays with her cousin, Gabbie, as they both enjoyed country music and line dancing. After hearing about Stampede, Aubrey's parents were a little skeptical about her going out to a bar/club every week, so Aubrey wanted to show them that it wasn't an ordinary bar and decided to go on Saturday breaking her normal routine. Justin had been taking some country swing dance lessons with some friends from a young adults Bible study, and he heard about Stampede thinking it sounded fun. After moving on from being the tech director at his church, Saturday nights all of a sudden became free, so Justin went with two of his friends - Lydia and Josh - to check Stampede out. While there, Aubrey and Justin ended up joining a couples line dancing lesson where they went into the middle of the dance floor with the other partnerless people. Aubrey and Justin ended up next to each other, started to learn the dance, and engaged in some small talk. Eventually, Justin asked Aubrey if she wanted to partner up and learn the line dance together. While partnered, they continued talking and dancing, but didn't learn the dance very well as there was something...errr...someone more interesting. After the lesson was over, they continued to talk on the side where Justin met Aubrey's parents (on date #0). They were kind and sweet and kept pushing Aubrey to continue dancing with Justin. Javy said that once he saw Justin wearing Van's and not cowboy boots, he knew he was a normal guy. They continued chatting and dancing together for the rest of the night with Aubrey teaching Justin some of her favorite line dances. Before they left, Justin made sure to ask for Aubrey's number which ended up leading to more.
Justin: I have lived in Encinitas most of my life with the exception of living in Berkeley for college. Most of my family is in San Diego as well with some living in various areas of northern California. Aubrey: I have bounced around the tri city area: Oceanside, Carlsbad, and Vista - AND some OC living during my years at Vanguard University. But I call Vista my hometown :)
Justin: I love Mexican food which makes living in San Diego so great! My favorite meal has to be Thanksgiving meal - gravy, stuffing, and mashed potatoes; doesn't get better than that. Aubrey: SUSHI, my stepdad's steak & guacamole, my mom's tuscan soup, McGuffin family tacos, and ANYTHING the Haugs cook.
Justin: I love Aubrey's kind and caring heart evident by the way she treats me and others. Aubrey: Justin's eyes not only are the prettiest blue ever, but you can see his kindness, passion, and genuine care/thoughtfulness so clearly through them. Everyone who meets Justin can see his heart and loves him.
Justin: If you have talked with me enough, you know I have a slight obsession with roller coasters and tracking them (I have ridden 190 unique coasters). My favorite is Velocicoaster at Universal's Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida. Aubrey: Justin has brought me to appreciate rollercoasters much more. Music & theming is a big influencing factor to me so my favorite rollercoaster is Hagrid's MotorBike Adventure in Universal Studios Orlando.
Justin: Aubrey was 100% the better line dancer when we met, but I think I might have caught up to her now. Aubrey: I'd say we're even but Justin is MUCH better at knowing every intricate step - I definitely fake it till I make it.
Justin: Ferris Bueller's Day Off Aubrey: The Little Mermaid, Gone with the Wind, Princess & the Frog For a Date Night: Sleeping Beauty
Justin: Switchfoot; if you are in town during early summer, the Bro-Am concert on Moonlight Beach is awesome! Aubrey: Dan & Shay, Bruno Mars, ALL country
