Lyric and Hattie both grew up in Bismarck but attended different high schools. It wasn’t until August 17, 2019, that they met at the bowling alley through mutual friends. Lyric always said he would NEVER date a Century girl, but it didn’t take long for that promise to be broken. From that day on, the two quickly became inseparable and officially started dating on September 2, 2019.
Back in high school, Lyric and Hattie spent their days going to Shakey Mondays at Kroll’s, taking long walks with their dogs, spending time on the river, and never missing a chance to cheer each other on at sporting events. During Lyric’s junior year, he tore his ACL playing football, and just one day after surgery, he was already crutching into the gym to support Hattie. Although COVID cut their junior year short, they still got to attend senior prom together and continued making the most of every moment side by side. Throughout it all, they never missed an opportunity to show up and support one another. No matter what they were doing, they were always happiest simply being together.
Lyric and Hattie attended North Dakota State University together and had the best time making new friends and soaking up every moment of college life side by side. From helping each other study to playing intramural volleyball and fixing flat tires (usually Hattie’s), there was never a dull moment between the two. During their senior year, they lived together and made countless sweet memories, from late-night ice cream runs to cozy nights spent binge-watching their favorite shows. Those simple, everyday moments quickly became some of their favorite memories together.
After college graduation, Lyric accepted a full-time position in Fargo at an accounting firm, while Hattie moved back home to begin her master’s program in occupational therapy. Since April 2025, they have been navigating long distance, and their relationship has only grown stronger. Even on the days they wish they were together, their love continues to carry them through every challenge. Through endless phone calls, weekend trips, and constantly supporting each other’s passions and dreams, the distance has only strengthened the love they share.
After tax season wrapped up for Lyric and Hattie had a break from school, Lyric and Hattie traveled to Cancun, Mexico for a well-deserved vacation. After 6.5 years filled with love, laughter, and memories they’ll cherish forever, Lyric led Hattie down to the beach, got down on one knee, and asked her to marry him. To make the moment even more special, Lyric brought a lock with their names and the date, which they attached to a heart as a symbol of their forever love. A moment that marked not just the next chapter, but the beginning of forever, one they cannot wait to spend together.
