Yes! But NOT at the top. About half-way up Borestone Mountain sits historic Lodges built in the early 1900's. Julia spent summers as a kid at the Lodges with her Grandfather, who was their caretaker. It is a very special place to her and she has always dreamed of getting married here. There are three ponds on Borestone (Sunrise, Midday & Sunset). The Lodges sit between Midday and Sunset Ponds. The ceremony and reception will be taking place overlooking Sunset pond. To learn more about the Lodges: https://maineaudubon.org/lodges-at-borestone-mountain/
The hike is not overly-strenuous, and the majority is on a dirt access road. The first 0.75 miles climbs about 600 ft in elevation. You will then hit a flat section until you arrive at the Nature Center at about 1 mile. From there, you will hike on a more traditional trail through the woods around Sunrise and Midday Ponds to the Lodges. It is about 1.5 miles total each way and should take no more than 1.5 hours.
Unfortunately, unless you are in the wedding party or immediate family, hiking in and out (potentially in low light) is the only option. The hike out after the wedding (at dusk) will be guided. We totally understand if this is too much to ask, and if that is the case, we will not be offended if you are unable to make it. We will celebrate with you another time. No pressure!
We will have a guided out around dusk for those not staying overnight in the Lodges. It will be low light but not completely dark yet. Please bring a headlamp if you have one.
This is a 1.5 mile hike each way with 600 feet of elevation gain. It is not terribly difficult, but also should not be done in sandals :) Feel free to bring a backpack and change when you get to the Lodges or stay in your hiking clothes. We will have basic necessities for "freshening up" once you arrive.
Cook-out style food with some delicious cake and desserts from Vail's bakery to follow.
We will have some refreshments including beer and cocktails, but please BYOB if you'd like something special!
It will be specified on your invitation if a plus-one is permitted. Due to the nature of the venue, we will be limited in how many plus-ones we can offer.
We love kids and will be allowing children if they are specified on the invitation, however please note there are deep and cold bodies of water on either side of the venue. If you are nervous about them around water or if they cannot swim, please make alternative arrangements for them.
Unfortunately dogs are not allowed on Borestone Mountain.
Yes! Please enjoy the beauty of Borestone and arrive early to do the whole hike if you'd like. It is only about 0.6 miles past the visitor center (note a fairly steep incline).
There is a parking lot at the trailhead of the mountain. Please carpool if at all possible to save room for day hikers.
