It all happened at a Dave Matthews Band 2-night stand in Deer Creek. Ben Yates and I had been going to this show for a couple of years and had made the annual journey again. We have a large tailgating group of DMB fans from around the country that we meet up with every year. He had mentioned he knew some friends from the Louisville swim team that were camping for the shows that weekend (and Sara's birthday) and reached out to them to come tailgate with us. After some convincing they decided to join us. As they approached, I was immediately drawn to a gorgeous brunette in a teal top and jean shorts. I immediately looked at Ben and asked, "Who is that?!" We did introductions and then I turned on the charm! Being chivalrous, I offered her a drink and got her a chair in the shade of our tent (it was probably 100 degrees that day). We all chatted about UofL and our common interest at the time, Sully's Saloon. We later took some pizza selfies (something we still do today) and enjoyed the concert. To be honest I don't even know if it was a good show because I was paying all my attention to her!
For my 24th birthday, my best friend Lacey bought tickets to see Dave Matthews Band in Indianapolis. It was an outdoor 2-day concert where we spent the weekend camping in my car. On night 2, we went to meet up with some other friends from Louisville who were at the concert. We hiked for what felt like MILES in the 95-degree heat to the other side of the venue, and eventually ended up at their tailgate. We drank some fireball and I met some kid named “Slats”, whom I thought was a little weird in his Reagan/Bush ’84 tank top. Sean and I went our separate ways into the concert, only to be reunited during the break to eat pizza and take selfies on the lawn. He never asked for my number and we really didn’t talk again. The end. Just kidding… That fall the new soccer stadium opened on U of L campus, and it was the season opening game. I was with some friends walking around before it started when I ran into Sean. We talked for a minute and I was actually the one to ask HIM for his number. Soon after the game, we went on a few dates and the rest is history. *He still owns that Reagan/Bush tank
