Marriage In the Manner of Friends

We will be having a Quaker style wedding. Quakers, the Religious Society of Friends, believe in a direct connection between each individual and the Divine. Therefore, a Quaker wedding needs no officiant. Instead, the bride and groom marry one another in a self-uniting ceremony. After an opening of thanks, followed by a moment of silent meditation, guests are invited to speak on the couple’s behalf. Any person who feels moved to do so may stand and share words of wisdom and love with the bride and groom, leaving a moment of silence for reflection between messages. Brief and heartfelt words, songs, poems, prayers, memories and humor are often shared. The bride and groom state their commitment of love and faithful partnership to one another, and in the witness of their community, are married. That’s it. This style of wedding reflects our commitment to one another and our community. We believe the solemnity and joy of the occasion are enhanced by this simplicity.

With love,

Harrison and Stacia

For all the days along the way
